When thoguhts become alive

Sometimes it happens just as think. I had the habit of sitting at the window turning my back against it so as to get light from behind while reading. Our old wooden window had a half curtain which I would never open since I get light from the above half. Few years ago one day as usual I relaxed with the newspaper in the mid-morning, suddenly this thought came to mind that a snake could crawl up from behind. I got up from the chair holding the paper in my hand and open the window curtain slightly and looked at the ground. I was taken aback to see a snake at the base of the window. As I drew the curtain it startled and held its head (not hood) erect. I don’t know what kind of snake was that. I stood silent as I could. In a few minutes it crawled away and hid under the stones that were heaped in the garden. Since then I gave up sitting in that position. My thoughts become alive like this often. I don’t know whether it is an intuitive power to protect me or there is something wrong with my brain.

Carless day or Cars' day?

What is the benefit of Mumbai’s roads being carless only for a day? Is it to add one more day to celebrate which we have been celebrating a day for everything every year? I wish all days were carless days. However, cars get a holiday and rest. Cars and bikes cause more accidents. Even if a person is an expert driver, accidents may occur inadvertently. Electronic machines often play tricks. The more they make the cars electronic the more we can expect their failure. Actually Mumbai city needs 4lane roads for heavy and small vehicles to go separately. But where is the space? Mumbai’s roads make a wonderful sight as vehicles always move along brushing with one another like ants. But most of the accidents occur on highways and at night when roads become empty.

What is the intention of everyone buying a car nowadays? Is it for one’s own convenience or luxury or a status symbol to brag about—mere paas gaadi hai, bungla hai, tumhare paas kya hai? Designers are at fault. New designs and technology attract youngsters. Even school children want to drive. It is a thrill for these youngsters. But their thrill will not last long. If all cars were ambassadors not many would have wanted to drive. Some things should not be made attractive. Sita Devi’s desire to get a golden deer made her life miserable. I cannot help laughing every time I see the Fiat Linea ad. The ad shows the real behavior of a dad and kid. When toys at the shop’s window fascinate kid, dad drags him from there to walk along and when the Fiat Linea at the show room fascinates dad, kid gets irritated and pulls him from there.

I had a maid long ago. She would say proudly that her truck driver man would drink country liquor daily. Surprised, I asked her why he wanted to drink. She said it was for confidence and to calm the mind while driving. I suspect the same in Nooria Haveliwala’s case whether she was drinking for confidence for not being an expert driver. Otherwise, why should she want to drink while driving? Seeing her face doesn’t seem she would do such things arrogantly. It was foolishness on her part. I feel rather pity than hatred for her. These youngsters ape such a life style ignorantly despite having enough knowledge of everything. Not being modern and adventurous is a shameful thing for them. Whom to blame when we live on the edge? Messenger of death comes disguised as beautiful vehicles.

Appendix and its Purpose

Read this article that was published in the Mumbai Mirror on January 20-2010.

Appendicitis may be related to viral infections

Can you catch appendicitis? And if you do, is it necessarily an emergency that demands immediate surgery? Yes and no, according to a new study by UT southwestern Medical Centre.
The researchers evaluated data over a 36 year period and concluded in a paper appearing in this month’s Archives of surgery that appendicitis may be caused by undermined viral infection or infections, said Edward Livingston, chief of surgery at UT Southwestern and senior author of the report.
Appendicitis is the common reason for emergency general surgery. It was first identified in 1886. Since then, doctors have presumed quick removal of the appendix was a necessity to avoid it bursting, which can be an emergency. Because removing the appendix is generally safe, it became standard practice in the early 20th century.
But this latest research studying appendicitis trends from 1970 to 2006 suggests immediate may not be necessary. Evidence from sailors at sea without access to immediate surgery and from some children’s hospitals, whose practice did call for emergency surgery, hinted that non-perforated appendicitis may resolve without surgery.
In undertaking the study, researchers screened the diagnosis for admissions for appendicitis, influenza, Rota virus and other infections. They found that seasonal variations clustering of the cases support the theory that it may be a viral disease, like the flu.
In addition, researchers uncovered some seasonal trends for appendicitis, with a slight increase in cases during the summer. They have also been able to rule out flu and other common infections as a cause. Appendicitis afflicts about one in ten people during their lifetime.
“Though appendicitis is fairly common, it still remains a frustrating mystery,” Livingston said.
“While we know removal is an effective treatment, we still don’t know the purpose of the
appendix, nor what exactly causes it to become obstructed.”

Appendix must be a valve to reduce pressure when waste pass from the small intestine to the large intestine in mass, just like the vacuum flask valve does. It can be filled with stool when having loose motions and cause infection.

Several years ago I took a relative to my family doctor for prolonged stomach pain. He presumed it appendicitis and referred for further tests. Her X-ray showed appendix was not infected. But during his treatment suddenly bleeding started from her bowels, so he thought appendix had burst and got her admitted to hospital in emergency and she had undergone a surgery unnecessarily. The medicine he had administered must have caused the bleeding. Still she suffers prolonged pain and has to take medicine daily for digestion.

Again once I had uncontrollable vomiting he confirmed it was appendicitis and waited to get me admitted to the hospital for surgery at midnight. I told him I would be all right by morning and took some medicine he had prescribed. I had no pain or any discomfort in the lower abdomen. X-ray had taken and further tests had done in the morning. My X-ray report showed appendix was not filled with barium. Since appendix was not visible in the X-ray I asked my doctor where the appendix is, to clear the doubt. At first he said, “It is in the back side, then said, it is not visible because it is infected.” How can we trust doctors who talk like that? However, I escaped surgery and further complications related to it.

The Colours of Nature

The universe is phenomenal, Nature is colourful. The colours of Nature have been set up in a particular way that our eyes can endure. If the cosmos was colourless; if the sky was any other colour instead of blue; if the soil was pure white across the earth in stead of the existing neutral colours; if the greenery was brownery (though that word doesn’t exist) it would look weird. Green colour is the symbol of fertility, it absorbs light; blue reflects. Green and blue are cool colours. While the blue sky acts as a reflector, greenery absorbs the strong sunlight. Thus it neutralizes. Otherwise, reflection of strong sunlight would be harmful to our eyes. Mountains look blue; ponds look green; the sea looks different coloured in each place though water has no colour. Water blends with the surface colour but what we see is not surface colour in the ponds and sea.

Trees and plants, animals and birds, fruits and vegetables all are coloured. But we are not coloured like other creatures. We have got colours of the soil. Perhaps, Nature has given it knowingly that we can make colours. Look at the trees, you can see the tree trunks are different in colour and texture, yet there is not much difference. Likewise, our skin colour is also different but there is not much difference.

Mother Earth is bedecked with different kind and coloured flowers. Colour of flowers varies according to the season. For example, the Gulmohar (flame of the forest) start flowering in April, which is the zodiac sign Aries. You can see red coloured flowers everywhere in april. So the colour for the zodiac, Aries is red. The end of April, in the cusp of Aries and Taurus, Hibiscus like deep red cloured flowers bloom. In May pink and deep pink flowered plants start blooming. In the end of May royal purple and yellow coloured flowers can be seen. So the colours for Zodiac, Gemini are purple and yellow. By the June end flowers become pale yellow and purple. In July flowers that bloom will be white. White flowers always bloom in the evening so as to see at night. There is nothing in pure white in the cosmos unless it is man-made. Blue and orange coloured flowers are for August. But in August, all coloured flowers will be seen together. For September, flowers will be light yellow and light purple. In the end of September, flowers with red and yellow combination can be seen. In October, flowers will be red and white as in April. In the end of October magenta coloured flowers like cock’s comb start flowering. Flowers will be pink and deep pink for November. There will be plenty of roses in November. December flowers will be purple and yellow as in September. Flowers for January are bright red and white. Pink and deep pink roses will bloom in plenty in February. And for March flowers will be deep yellow and deep purple. Not only flowers but also vegetables and fruits have got colours according to the months. If the season is not favorable to you that season’s vegetables and fruits also will not favourable. Certain vegetables and fruits may cause allergy to some.

The black and white era has gone behind. Films, TV, Computer and news papers changed from black and white into colour. People realized the value and elegance of colours only recently. We create colours artificially and make everything in colours. Colours can bring positive or negative vibes to your life. All colours don’t suit everybody. You can select colours for clothes, jewellery and accessories according to the flower colours for each month or zodiac signs that I have mentioned above. We can see colours because we have colour sense in our brains. There are seven colours in the Sun’s rays, so in the rainbow. Can we think a world without colours? Without colours life will be colourless.

Life is a Marathon Race

Life is a Marathon race,
Set the finishing point at hundred
The track to be run is full of stones and thorns,
Fate and fortune are equally to be challenged
Some leave it at the very starting point,
Some get tired and collapse in the middle
A few fortunate ones can reach the target,
One or two run beyond the finishing point
Fortune, forbearance, fettle and mettle are needed to complete the race.

Prediction for 2010

Happy New Year

My prediction for last year (2009) proved right. I had put down my prediction on Amitabh ji’s blog.
My prediction was—“According to the Chinese Lunar calendar, 2009 is the Year of The Ox. Political situation will continue to be grim all over the world. There will be more fire related problems and explosions.”

2010 started in dark phase with a lunar eclipse and an overcast sky. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, 2010 is the year of the TIGER. Whether it is going to be a happy or sad year or will it be like the tiger, wild!?

Last year was an awakening year and full of calamities. The world saw more evil, heard evil, and said evil. The world didn’t follow the rules of Lord Buddha—see not evil, say not evil, hear not evil—that’s why. But Lord Buddha forgot to make a fourth monkey for ‘do not evil.’ Last year swine-flu scared the world. This year also an outbreak of diseases such as chicken-pox, measles and meningitis are possible. We can expect a moderate rain this year.

President Barack Obama will bask in the glory till 2012. Thereafter, he will struggle to complete the term. The souls of all those whom he got killed will be after him. He received the Nobel Peace Prize as a ‘war president’. Does he want to be titled as war president? Does he get peace after war? If so, he is a war and peace president.

PM Manmohan Singh will continue without trouble till 2012. Thereafter, hindrances will come on his way.
